STEPHEN TUNNEY / DOGBOWL
Stephen Tunney’s paintings assemble an intimate cyclorama of portraitures inhabiting dantean toonworlds. From the astral regions of a hasty teenager’s bedroom, expands a post-apocalyptic universe colonized by carnivals of contaminated humanoids, unhinged bots, love-craved mutants, rascally cyborgs and a whole bestiary of more or less gentle monsters singing bawdy urban folk tales.
These works take part in an integrated multimedia practice that also consists of novels (Flan, 1992 ; One Hundred Percent Lunar Boy, 2010), videos and songs performed under the stage name Dogbowl, Tunney’s musical solo-act alongside which he co-founded the band King Missile in 1986 with lead singer John S. Hall.
