CHRONICLES OF SHPONGLE

Imagine being trapped on acid in the worst place imaginable and you might be getting close to the Chronicles of Shpongle: a morbid hallucinatory universe siphoned from the horror of contemporary America, where the aesthetics of mental illness, addiction, disease and endless garbage are jerryrigged into an alchemical contraption designed to fuck you up.

While this painstaking creative direction might draw comparisons to ambitous artists like Gilliam or Giger, the biggest influence at play with Shpongle is the anonymous internet: impossible, cursed images and creepypastas found on tumlbr and reddit, whose refusal of context and reference have elevated them to mythological status.

Shpongle's output has taken the form of sculpture, drawing, writing, and costume, culminating together in film: like a Jackass episode directed by Matthew Barney on 4K, Shpongle is and arduous and intoxicating form of endurance based cinema.
