SALON MONDIALITÉ

Salon Mondialité, Miho Hatori's "imaginary, experimental TV talk show," is a collaborative performance that is both improvised and choreographed, set in a music-driven multimedia spectacle. Inspired by the work of French Caribbean poet and philosopher Edouard Glissant, Salon Mondialité was first performed at The Kitchen in 2019. It explores the artist's proximity to haunted images of the Caribbean and muses on her relationship with history. Hatori brings together a community of artists and audience members to reflect upon the transformations of populations and environments, from the hallowed A.B.C. Islands to her experience of watching history unfold in the Lower East Side. Her "quizzical quest" through invented soundscapes is guided by lost street songs in Japan and the sounds of billowing palm trees. Hatori attempts to conjure her experience of the islands and reflect on fantasies of Conquistadors descending on Sandals-style resort beaches – a comically dissident history of violence.

The performance will take place on Friday, October 21st, 2022, at 7pm at 99 Canal Street, New York, NY, and will feature musicians Paul Wilson, Michael Beharie, Anu, and Woodson Legrand.
